Tag der Landlosen in Basel
Landloses Medienkollektiv

GM Watch: 02 July 2006 - How pro-GM lobbyists promote the GM agenda
GM Watch

We’re looking at the way that pro-GM lobbyists promote their agenda using the media, yet without disclosing their vested interests in GM crops. It includes a piece on an article on a recent paper by the economist Jeremy Rifkin. Rifkin’s paper is on the non-GM biotech approach of marker-assisted selection, which involves no genetic modification and it not only eclipsing the crude technology of GM but offers a way of moving the biotech debate forward. Rifkin's innovative ideas have been vigorously attacked by powerful GM lobby groups and scientific institutions that have vested interests in GM

GM Watch: 25 June 2006 - Illegal GM crops in Brazil and China
GM Watch

Between 16-18k hectares of cotton across several Brazilian states has been quarantined because illegal GM cotton seeds have been used, and this illegal GM cotton is set to be destroyed; The South China Morning Post reported a was clear collusion between GM scientists and a commercial company to sell Chinese farmers GM grain without informing them either that the seeds were genetically engineered or that it was illegal to plant them; A report on GM was commissioned from the county of Santa Cruz's, in California, and they concluded that 1. State and federal laws provide inadequate oversight of GM food and crops, 2. Lack of safety testing leaves a dangerous void in understanding of the long-term health effects of GM food, 3.
