Frankenfood Toxology
Paul Kotheimer

Here's a song, sung to the tune of the church hymn known as the "Doxology." It appears on my recent CD, SERIOUS FOLKING MUSIC. 100 copies of the disc have been given away to the great supporters of the Urbana-Champaign Indymedia Center, which works as a grantwriting and fundraising hub for Global Indymedia.

Feel free to sing this ditty whereever you protest biotech corporate greed!!

E-mail me if you'd like sheet music for the 3-part vocal harmony. It sounds lovely when sung well.

What are Transformation Events?
antje

"MON810" or "Bt176" are transformation events. These letters will say nothing to most, but they say everything to a scientist doing risk assessment or in liability cases.
It is key to keep them with any documentation on GMOs.

"This may contain GMOs..."
clara

The USA, Canada and Mexico made a trilateral agreement on the labelling of GMOs that sounds like a joke, but meant seriously. Regarding the the transboundary movement of GMOs for food, feed and processing (LMO-FFPs), they agreed on documentation to label GMO shipments with a "may contain" statement that does not include any information which GMO it is. No labelling what so ever is needed if the GMO content is less then 5%, or for any unintended GM-contamination, no matter how high that is.

Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
clara

Button worn by delegates and NGOs at MOP1 After years of nearly failing negotiations, and 4 years after it was signed, the First Meeting of Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety finally takes place. During this meeting the framework is set for the future working of the protocol, especially on issues of labelling, liability and compliance.

As before, the Miami group around the USA, Canada and Argentina can easily made out as the bad guys, together with industry organisations like the International Grain Trade Coallition, but some proposals around labelling are just ridiculous.
