Promote sustainable agriculture, support Negros's rejection of GMOs: Greenpeace
Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, PHILIPPINES — Greenpeace today called on the national government to follow the example of Negros Occidental in its vigilance against GMO crops (genetically modified organisms) to protect and promote sustainable agriculture in the country. The call came at the conclusion of the province’s Environment Week celebrations last week which showcased Bacolod’s organic and sustainable farming initiatives.

Fifteen Belgian rape seed fields, owned by Bayer CropScience, have been contaminated by genetically modified organisms (GMOs) banned in Europe, the country's public health ministry announced yesterday. The Bayer subsidiary, which specialises in improving crop yields, informed the Belgian authorities of the contamination, which happened last month during the planting of normal rape seed.

Am 17. April, dem internationalen Tag der Landlosen, nahmen Menschen an über 50 Aktionen in 25 verschiedenen Ländern teil. Eine davon fand vor dem Hauptsitz des Schweizer Agrarkonzerns «Syngenta» in Basel statt. Hauptanlass dazu war die Ermordung eines Landlosen in Brasilien im Bundesstaat Paraná, durch eine von Syngenta beauftragte Sicherheitsfirma.
Wir von Via Campesina sagen "Nein zur Privatisierung der Natur" und rufen zu Aktionen vom 17. bis zum 19. Mai 2008 während der CBD [1] in Bonn auf.
