Demonstranten, waaronder leden van Via Campesina uit Europa en Latijns-Amerika, gingen de gebouwen binnen en lazen aan het personeel op de tiende verdieping een bericht voor.

On Monday 17 May a group of 50 people from the group "Roundup Monsanto" blockaded the Monsanto office at Bergschenhoek in the Netherlands.

Vanaf 6 uur vanochtend (17 mei 2010) blokkeert de actiegroep 'Verdelg Monsanto' met een veertigtal mensen beide poorten van de Monsanto-vestiging nabij Rotterdam. De actievoerders willen dat Monsanto zich terugtrekt uit de zadenmarkt en eisen een einde aan patenten op zaden en levende organismen. Op het moment wordt, onder druk van agro-chemische multinationals als Monsanto, in de EU gewerkt aan regelgeving die het voor grote bedrijven makkelijker maakt de zadenmarkt te overheersen.[1]

The BBC reported today that the Department of Health and UK Police have issued a safety alert as heroin infected anthrax has killed a number of people. Heroin infected with anthrax spores killed people in Scotland in December 2009. Today police revealed that more people have died including a person in London. Was it leaked from an animal testing lab?
Monsanto Roundup Ready creating super weeds
Roundup Ready is the herbicide used with Monsantos genetically modified Roundup soya beans. Weeds are now appearing that are resistant to the herbicide causing farmers to use other herbicides to combat this thus negating the benefits cited by proponents of GM crops.

Kwekersvrijstelling op plantoctrooien gaat voedselmonopolie
Vorige week kondigden de ministers Verburg van LNV en Van der Hoeven van EZ aan een wetsvoorstel te gaan voorbereiden om een beperkte kwekersvrijstelling op te nemen in de Rijksoctrooiwet 1995 [1]. Brancheorganisatie Plantum NL reageerde positief op dit voornemen [2]. Echter, een dergelijke beperkte uitzondering op octrooien op levende organismen voor plantenveredelaars voldoet in de ogen van actiegroep A SEED Europe volstrekt niet [3]. Het gaat de ongewenste machtsconcentratie in landbouw en voedselvoorziening niet tegen.

De hele maand April toerde A SEED rond met info over de opslokpraktijken van zaaigoedmultinationals en een groeiende tegenbeweging van protestgroepen tot lokale alternatieven. We gaan nog effe door in mei! Plaatsen die we (weer) zullen aandoen zijn: Wapserveen ( 1 mei), Amsterdam (3 mei), Den Haag (11 mei), Zwolle (12 mei) en Pinksterlanddagen.
