Walter Epp, 20-06-2003

The threats to life from genetic engineering make terrorists look benign in comparison. A GE bacteria may have come close to destroying most higher terrestrial life.

McDonald's Asks Meat Suppliers to Stop Using Antibiotics
., 20-06-2003

Washington Post article singing the praises of McD's recent decision to make another pr step... ignoring the loss of forests due to the grazing problem entirely... but definitely focusing on the impact that swaying mega-corporations into discouraging use of bio-engineered and antibiotic laden foods can have.

A prayer from Sacramento
Daniel, 20-06-2003

A U.S. Department of Agriculture tradeshow of biotechnology and genetically engineered lifeforms is set to begin in Sacramento. As of this writing, less than half the WTO member countries had accepted the invitation to attend, showing the tepid support for the U.S. corporate agenda. Activists from around the country and the world are converging to add their voices of opposition, and I am among them.

pig parade in sacto
redred, 20-06-2003

i was riding my bike alone in downtown sacramento, dressed in black (like an idiot, lookin' hella sketchy) when a police officer came up and asked me to pull over. he got out and asked me, "are you here for the ministers of agriculture thing?" i told him that i wasn't going to divulge that information. "i don't have to fucking tell you anything!" that was the start of a two-hour experience.

Genetically Engineered Trees Protest Kicks off Mobilization in Sacramento
19-06-2003

The showdown in Sac will kick-off with an action against Frakentrees.

Today it was announced that a coalition of national and regional organizations will launch a grassroots campaign against International Paper (IP) with a protest at IP subsidiary, Xpedex Paper on Saturday, 9:15 a.m. ,June 21. The Xpedx Paper and Graphics store is located at 1059 Vine St, Sacramento, CA. (Driving directions: from 16th St go left onto Sproule Ave, right onto Sunbeam Ave, left onto Richards Blvd and right onto Vine St.) Reportedly, the protest "will include a roving grove of old growth trees, banners, signs, chants and speakers from coalition groups. " Organizers say: "The demonstration is the first of many expected throughout the weekend and into next week as people from around the nation come to Sacramento to protest the US Agricultural Science and Technology Expo. "

IP is a major promoter of GE tree technology, sometimes referred to as Frankentrees, in the world today. Activists say "The coalition is asking International Paper to end its research and development of GE trees because of the danger they pose to the environment." The protest comes at the start of a 5-day mobilization in Sacramento against the US agenda to export industrial agriculture, including genetically modified organisms, around the world.
